If you are traveling to the United States anytime soon, then you probably are going to need a place to lay your head at some point. In most cases, you will find a place here and there that is reasonably cheap if you are looking to save money and if you are looking to throw some cash around, there are plenty of those places as well.
You will find nothing less than $35 a night (that has a roof), except for campsites. All rates are generally exclusive of taxes, so always add up to 15.5% in taxes! In YMCA / YWCA, a dorm bed costs about $ 20-30 a night per person and a private room doubles (with shared bathroom) in the $50-80. In motels, count $60-100 for a double in season, or up to $120 or $130 (and up to $180-200 for hotels)… The bed and breakfast start around $75-80 for a double, but the smartest is to increase to $200 (average in the $130). Prices vary by season, often depending on the day of the week. High season runs roughly in May and is completed in September. In low season, rates decreased from 20 to 40%, sometimes a little more.

The United States has plenty of modes of transportation but you should be weary of each one. Here are a few tips:
* The plane- The airlines that fly within the United States have numerous flight delays and air traffic is heavy. Attention from Europe, the delays through customs is hell! Although American cars consume more fuel than other countries, gasoline remains cheaper than in other countries and there are very few tolls…
* Car rental- Prices may vary, it is important to compare rates. Taxes, which range from 4 to 20%, are rarely included in the vouchers of agencies; for insurance, it depends on the companies. In general, the cars are more spacious and comfortable than in Europe, with equal categories. Mileage is usually unlimited.
* Renting a motorhome (RV or motorhome)- Compared to European campers, American RV’s are often huge! That said, it’s quite slow and very expensive, even for four to six people (from $1,200 a week in high season, the most mileage).Although more expensive, therefore, that is a car + motels. Especially at the price of rent in addition to gasoline and the location of campsites since it is forbidden to spend the night outside of campgrounds. Allow $10 to $25 instead, without hook-up (water and electricity connections). A permit is conventional enough.
* The bus- The Greyhound network covers almost the entire country. However, they serve only partially the national parks of the American West. In this America, where cars and planes prevail, the Greyhound system is considered the conveyance of the poor. That said, they can totally go around the country and down safely.
* Hitchhiking- Less and less practiced. The stop of this is prohibited on motorways and advised on other main roads. California law remains unclear on the subject… Anyways, the U.S. is suspicious of not having a car. So do not be surprised if customers are not lining up to offer you a ride.
* The train- The train is very comfortable but does not cover the whole territory and remains more expensive than the bus. For long distances, Amtrak offers a rail pass valid throughout the United States. It allows for 8, 12 or 18 trips over 15, 30 or 45 days (respectively). Count from 390 to about $750.

When dining… For about $5-8, you can find everywhere sandwiches, wraps and burgers to take away. For $10-15, you can usually make a real meal. The same dishes are often more expensive than at twelve o’clock at night (up to $10 more). Nobody will be offended if you just share your plate. Here are what typical “sit down” meals in a restaurant will usually run a normal family if you decide to take a night out at a typical dining establishment: – Cheap: under $12. – Average Prices: $12 to $ 16. – Chic $16 to $25. – Very chic: beyond $25. In addition to taxes, you must add the service (gratuity or tip), thus providing 15% more… Taxes and gratuities Taxes- The prices displayed are TAX FREE. It is added at checkout, and varies by state, city and type of purchase. In hotels, it varies between 10 and 15% for everything like restaurants, clothing, rental cars… it varies from 5to10%. Merchants, restaurateurs and hotels therefore add to the fund. Only food products sold in stores are not subject to tax (depending on state). Similarly, some other sectors, it is true few, are exempted. Gratuities (tips or free alternatives)- In the restaurants, the servers have a ridiculous salary, the bulk of their income comes from tips. The tip is an institution to which you must not deviate (except fast food places and self-service). 15-20% of the amount of the notes is expected. A trick to know what to tip: just double the tax added to the amount of the note, which is about 15-17%. If you pay by a score of restaurant credit card, be sure to complete Box gratuity that is on the slip. Please note that your one is not mistaken for a 7. In bars, the bartender expects you let him a little something, for example $1 per beer. In taxis, it is customary to leave a tip of 10 to 15% in the sum over the counter. The skyscrapers

It is best to travel the New York Times on Friday and the weekend, and weekly Village Voice and Time Out New York.
* Music- Many outdoor concerts in summer, which adds to the charm of New York. The most famous is Summer Stage, which takes place from late June to mid-September in Central Park – Do not miss an opera (from September to April) or ballet (from May to August) at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. – At Carnegie Hall classical concerts almost every day with pianists, violinists… young talents are shown.
* Cinema- For fifteen dollars this is a very exotic idea! The American public is dissipated, even noisy, filled up with Coke and popcorn throughout the session. In short, an interesting experience.
* Night Life- Night life contributes to a very important economic and energy of New York. Most bars are open until 4am, even on weekdays!
